When the darkness knocks...
First Draft's Halloween event at Chetham's Library

It's Halloween, and there is a darkness calling from a building that has witnessed the shadows of history flood the city. Chetham's Library has soaked itself in secrets and stories and now First Draft coming to let the building speak. Our incredible line-up of performers will be sharing new music, stories, poetry and drama to tell the tales that the building cannot speak itself.
Our performers will explore the creepy, strange and dark in this thick-walled, medieval building. Can a place ever shake it's past? And if that past is as a priests residence, a prison, a gunpowder factory, a stately home and a school — what happens when all those histories wake up at once?
#darknessknocks

First Draft is a bi-monthly Manchester-based cabaret night, showcasing brand new work: drama, fiction, poetry, music, comedy, storytelling, spoken word, and more. We aim to provide a space for writers and performers of all kinds to test out new ideas in front of a supportive audience.

A group of us are organising a poetry event called Poet's Corner which is going to be held at Chetham's Library on May 12th as part of Manchester After Hours.

We are inviting a diverse mix of local poets to perform on stage within the beautiful surroundings of one of the oldest libraries in the UK and intend to inject a sense of energy and excitement in to a typically serene and quiet environment. Our event is aimed at new and existing audiences of poetry / spoken word and encourages people to appreciate the work of contemporary poets whilst making connections to and celebrating Manchester's literary past.

Rosie Garland at the Womens' Institute

Tuesday 24th Feb
Manchester WI
The Baronial Hall
Chethams School of Music
Long Millgate,
Manchester M3 1SB

Time: 7pm

As a group we hope to present a modern twist of the traditional WI, revisiting fabulous skills such as jam making, knitting, and sewing, but also giving time over to subjects relative to today's women such as upcycling, craftivism and community involvement.

Each month we meet in the Baronial Hall at Chethams Music School in Manchester City Centre. Each meeting there's a speaker or an activity as well as a chance to catch up with other members over a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

On February 24th we are delighted to welcome Rosie Garland.
